Because you are amazing...

Just the way you are!

Happy first clinical day for Tida B!

Everybody cut, everybody cut......

Dancing in the movies makes me want to jump up and bust a move....at the same time I want to stay on the couch and get wrapped up in the improbability of Patrick Swayze busting through a set of double doors and telling my father, "Nobody puts Rey Rey in the corner!"

Top 5!

Top five reasons we love Tida B:

5. The way she makes up words and works then into a conversation in order to pretend they are real ("Mawn lower" "batillion" "Spain words")

4. Her gorgeous, flowy, supermodel hair (....so JEALOUSSSSSSSSSSSS!)

3. She makes a mean tuna fish sandwich on toast

2. The way the girls scream their heads off with happiness when they see her

1. Her bitchin' dance moves

Top five reasons B is not as cool as we all think she is:

5. She didn't go to the Beyonce concert with me

4. Her gorgeous, flowy, supermodel hair (....so JEALOUSSSSSSSSSSSS!)

3. Her lack of interest in the television show Lost

2. She lives so faaaar away...(doesn't anybody stay in one place anymore?)

1. Her aversion to fruit pies

Seriously, is that not the most DEEEE lish looking pie you've ever seen?

It's no secret.....

That we miss our Tida Bee.

It's only in Crazytown that B and Rey can meet up on a regular and consistent basis. At nearly opposite ends of the state, or at least opposing elevations, it can be hard for these dedicated sisters to keep in touch. Here is a sampling of the random conversations of one weekend:

B: What was that show that we watched together all the time? I am trying to remember. I was going to ask you about that show.

R: What show?

B: I don't know. That's what I was going to ask you. When i remember, I'll ask you.

R: Was it TGIF? Family Matters? Sabrina the Teenage Witch?

B: We didn't watch Sabrina.

R: You watched Sabrina. More than me. Was it Step by Step? Full House?

B: No. Remember The 9 of Us? Just the 9 of Us?

R: That wasn't a show. Eight is Enough is an 80's show.

B: No, The 9 of us. It had Susan Sarandon as the mom.

R. Susan Sarandon was not on a sitcom

B. Yes, she was! With all those kids living in that house.

R. Not Susan Sarandon.

B. Yes! Suzanne Sommers.

R. Yes. Not Susan Sarandon. Suzanne Sommers.

B. Patrick Dempsey was the dad.

R. Patrick Demsey?

B. No. Patrick Duffy. And Suzanne Sommers.

(Texting B, on her way to LA).
r. Natalie has the Rota. Bile green rhydia.
b. I have the rota. Bile green snot up to my gazebo. Is the rota a sinus thing?
r. No--stomach.
b. Then i have a sinus thing. Delphia will get it next. We are in Kangman.

b. How is splatalie today?
r. Matilda has been golden. Oprah hopefully will avoid it.

r. Natalie tried to wake me up while i was pretend sleeping. she said CACA CACA DOOOO!
b. lolly lolly.

Connor Vee Huxtable

As iconic families go, it's hard to get past these two 80's classics as examples. Is there something representing each family that divides personalities as easily as astrological signs? As earth elements? As political parties? Must one belong to either a Conner or a Huxtable upbringing?

I hesitate to say that one family is better than the other. My first instinct is to go with the Huxtable class and money. But when you look at fictional themes in raising families, the Conners push just as hard as the Huxtables when it comes to family dinners, having pride in your background and upbringing, school and grades, and spending time together as a family. I think that Dan and Roseanne had a little sharper edge to their parenting style, a little more push and a little more crass that wasted no breath in attempting to lure children into good behavior, and instead, just demanding that it be so. Cliff and Claire also kept short leashes -- only it seemed, at times, that their darling children responded to witty and loving prompts, instead of Roseanne's sharp voice screaming across the afghan-ed Connor living room.

I'm not sure I am willing to take sides in this potential debate. One pretend family boasted style and class; the other thrived on cheap beer and flying by the seat of their pants. It's no secret that each lead borrowed heavily from their own lives for material for each sitcom. If Bill Cosby and Roseanne Barr were in the same room, would they even talk to one another?

One thing that would unite Cliff, Clair, Dan and Roseanne in conversation (if they were to somehow find themselves at the Lanford Jazz Club and Bar) would surely be the state of parenting these days. The Huxtables and the Conners both exhibited tough love, wherein a parent knows they are doing the right thing by monitoring the over-dramatic reaction of a child that will then pout and hate them for the rest of the episode (until said child learns their 30 minute lesson). In the recent state of "My super duper super spoiled sweet 16" and "My parents love me so they bought me a pony and a cell phone and I'm quitting school so I can discover myself", tough love might be hard to come by.

So are the Conners and Huxtables still out there in the real world? Are their families like this that still thrive on hard knocks and sticking together? What about you? Are you a Conner or a Huxtable? Did you grow up one only to raise your family as another? Would the Conners and Huxtables be able to be next door neighbors? The world may never know.

I said, "You silly goose, Yes!"

With Hector's recent asthma history, I was surprised by how eager he was to take me on a run in Buffalo Park. He asked me on Thursday if I had plans for Sunday, and when I said no, he asked if I wanted to go for a run. Of course, I said yes...little did I know that was his ultimate goal.

By Friday, Hector said he'd thought it'd be better if we went on our run early Saturday morning instead. So I went along with it saying, "Sure, whatever you want., but what do you mean by early?" He woke me at 8:00 Saturday morning, and we were on the Buffalo Park trail by 9:00.

We were at the 1/4 mile marker when I asked Hector if he had brought his inhaler, and he said no. This really frustrated me. But I had Ozo, and the ground had a bounce in it, so I ran ahead of Hector, thinking, "Well he can have an asthma attack, but I am enjoying my run."

At the 1/2 mile marker, I turned back, and Hector was on the ground, on one knee. I yelled back to him to see if he was ok. He said he thought we needed to go back to get his inhaler. For a moment I contemplated telling him to just come back for me, I wanted to finish my run, I really had good momentum going. But he waved me back to him and said "Come here." As I walked up to him, he was pulling out a ring box. I couldn't believe what I was seeing, and said a certain expletive not appropriate for this site.

I honestly don't know what exactly he said to me while on his knee, but it was beautiful. He asked me to marry him, I said, "You silly goose, yes!" We kissed, hugged, and that's when the tears started for both of us. We each thanked each other for all that's been given in our relationship to make it work all these years. The ring was much more than I ever expected, but Hector is much more than I could have ever asked for.

Fiesta of Family

We've all said it, or heard it, at family events that pull everyone away from their routine and day-to-day, in order to cope or celebrate together. "We need to do this more often!" "We need to get together more!" Reality sets in, and eventually...we don't. BUT THEN...something else happens, and we do. And it is totally worth it.

For my OLDER sister...

I remember when
Elegance was not your scoop.
You shot your Red Rider
And played with dog poop.
With little care about your looks,
You excelled in ROTC
And rocked those combat boots.
You had a dream at age 18,
So you left for college
To become a US Marine.
You were still only 20
When love changed your plan,
And married by 21 knowing
Ricky was your man.
Then came your first born, Natalie,
Not too soon after, Sophia.
Oh how your life has changed,
Mine too - you made me a Tia.
Today you turn 30!
And begin a whole new decade.
Only love I wish for you,
Because what a friend you've made.
From the days of your BB gun and first softball glove,
I want you to always know,
You've got the best of my love.

Happy 30th!

Let's Celebrate in Spirit

So Rey Rey turns 30 in just TWO days! Sorry to say I can't be there because of school commitments. In honor of Reyna's annual "Birthday Dress," I send her birthday wishes from my workplace to her's. Love you, sister.

We HEART you!

Love is in the air...and we are missing our Little B something big this Valentine's Day. So with thoughts of the Beej on the brain, and time, crayons, and paper on our hands, we got to work!

Yaya stopped long enough to hoard the crayons...

...but then it was time to concentrate:

Some of us seemed PRETTY satisfied with their efforts...

In the end, there can never be enough crayons or paper to show our full appreciation, but we did our best:

Crazytown is full of love (among other things), and we HEART you!!!

When the snow flies, so do we!

When there's homework to be done and three feet of snow on the ground, what do we do?

This!

With the New Year comes a New Semester, too.

How time flies. School has started again, and this semester is bound to be more hectic than the last. I wish I could say I am eager to begin, but that wouldn't exactly be the truth. This semester holds lots of travel ahead, which isn't bad necessarily, but one of my weekly destinations is Kingman, AZ. For some reason, Kingman just doesn't bring the butterflies of excitement. Luckily for me, I've been able to postpone my first trip of the semester there because of "unsafe weather conditions." So for now, I'll take what I can and enjoy the view.
